Humor is becoming more popular amongst advertisers when they want to create a positive response. According to TNS Media Intelligence, advertisers in the USA alone spend around $45 billion a year on humorous ads.
Using humor in ads enhances the consumer’s attention on your product. However the humor does have to relate to the product. Take for example, the commercial below. It is hilarious, but it also subconsciously brings to your attention that Windex is the best window cleaner.
The whole point in advertising is to grab their attention. You want your audience to be comfortable and you want to build up their trust. You want them to have a positive image of your company. This can all be done with humor.
Subtle by relative humor will lift the spirits up and we all need that from time to time, but we also need that to help build rapport with our audience. It has been proven that humor relaxes you and can help you see things in a different way.
All of this can help boost rapport with your audience while building brand awareness. How many times have you heard people say “Did you see that really funny commercial?” Guess what, word of mouth advertising that is free. I plan to do some more research on this and put together an ebook on this phenomenon.
